The Internet is a sometime thing at our new place.
The cable guy comes Friday morning to get us hooked up for 50 Mbps down / 5 up. Comcast: imagine my joy. We had initially planned to get installed last Monday, but put it off before leaving Massachusetts in an excess of caution — at the last minute we had entertained doubts that we could get everything done to pull out as planned on Friday the 10th. (But we did.)
While at home we have been using my iPhone’s hotspot for access. Verizon’s signal is not good in this neighborhood; we will be exploring other carriers soon. And we have been using a lot more data than usual. Yesterday morning VZ sent me a text that we had reached 75% of what we were paying for, with 3 days to go before the cable install. Half an hour later: 90%. Twenty minutes after that: 100%. I hopped onto the VZ Wireless site and bought more bandwidth, retroactively. Shouldn’t have to do that again.
One of the regrets at leaving Groton is leaving behind Verizon FiOS Internet service, 75 Mbps symmetrical and reliable as the day is long. Comcast. Sigh.
